Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu's main profession
is writing lyrics for film songs, but that is not his only talent. He
is basically a poet and a prolific writer who has written many poetry
collections, essay collections and three novels. His maiden novel
'Kallikkattu Ithihasam' won the prestigious Sahithya Academy award. Most
of his creative works have been translated in various Indian and
foreign languages.
In the recent years Vairamuthu tried his
hand in short stories and a the short stories he wrote in a popular
Tamil weekly was published as a collection with the title 'Vairamuthu
Sirukathaigal', last year This collection has seen Within one year,
nine editions of this book have been sold out and the 11th edition is
under print.
Now 'Vairamuthu's short stories have
achieved a new honour from the near by Kerala state. Mathrubhumi, a
leading publisher in Kerala has purchased the rights to translate and
release the short stories in Malayalam, with the writer's consent. With
this Vairamuthu will be reaching the Malayalam speaking readers and
people.
