Lyricist Vairamuthu, who had released his first collection of short
stories a few months ago, has one more reason to feel happy about. The
anthology is now going to be translated into Malayalam, and this is the
first time that a complete work of the National Award-winner is getting
translated in the language. "So far, my individual stories and poems
have been translated into Malayalam, but this is the first time a
complete work of mine is getting translated," reveals the lyricist.
Contemporary short stories do not get translated into Malayalam immediately after their release, he says. "In my opinion, Malayalam and Bengali literary works have been one step ahead of the other languages and I have a huge respect for these languages. So, it gladdens my heart that contemporary Tamil literature is spreading across languages," says Vairamuthu.
He feels that there is an advantage in translating a work when its creator is alive because the translator can consult with the writer and bring out the actual intent of the writing. The book is being translated by Venkatachalam, a Kozhikode-based writer, who has earlier translated the works of Jayakanthan and Ashokamitran. A leading publishing house is bringing out this translation under the title, Konja Neram Manidhanaai Irundhavan, which is the title of one of the stories in the collection
