AR Rahman is my favourite

There're aren't many film music albums here that do not feature at least one song rendered by playback singer Vijay Prakash. What's more, his voice transcends all language barriers too, what with one of his latest Marathi songs turning out to be the biggest hit of all times. While on a visit to Bengaluru, we caught up with the singer for a quick tete-a-tete. Excerpts...

You recently recorded a couple of songs for the upcoming Kannada film Akira. What is your opinion about working with Ajaneesh B Loknath, who is one among the promising music directors in this industry? I worked with Ajaneesh many years ago, even before Ulidavaru Kandante, for a film that I don't remember the name of. Back then itself, I knew this guy was here to do some great work. It was a beautiful song. Since then, we have shared a great rapport and the journey has been one of mutual respect. After that, I met him again for Ulidavaru Kandante, for which both of us won Filmfare Awards — he as Best Music Director and me as Best Singer. Rewards, although extremely important, are secondary for musicians who tend to focus on creating something good all the time. I recorded for Akira in Bengaluru recently in the presence of the film team, which I found to be a very involved and spirited bunch of people. They have a good vision for the songs too and am sure they will go on to do well.
